The College of Business & Economics is student-centered, globally focused and technology-enabled. We strive to achieve our mission of meeting evolving constituent needs through excellence in teaching, research and service.
Our faculty view themselves as helping to shape the lives of our nation's future leaders. Committed to helping students gain a broad understanding of the complex and ever-changing world of business, our faculty strive to inculcate fundamental knowledge, practical skills, professional ethics and a conceptual framework for sound decision making that will squarely position our graduates for success as future leaders. Three members of the B&E faculty have received the University's highest teaching accolades in the last two years and our advising staff has been accorded the Golden Key National Honor Society's Golden Apple Award for the last four years.
Each year the College brings entrepreneurs and business executives to campus for seminars, workshops and lectures that expand upon students' classroom experience. These various initiatives offer students an opportunity to interact with successful practitioners who offer behind-the-scene insights in their businesses, augment theory with case study analysis, and provide career counseling.
With its annual business plan competition and other initiatives, the College's Entrepreneurship Center highlights the transformational role the visionary entrepreneur can play in expanding economic opportunities in West Virginia and beyond. And, for nearly half a century, the College's Bureau of Business and Economic Research has produced studies and offered economic outlook conferences that have helped governmental officials and business leaders better understand trends within the state and regional economies thereby impacting important policy decisions.
Through its MBA, Executive MBA and Executive Education programs, the College has been in the vanguard of institutions incorporating sophisticated distance-learning technology into its pedagogy and curriculum, effectively extending our faculty beyond the confines of Morgantown to virtually any West Virginian seeking to gain new business skills and updated knowledge.
On the international front, through the Center for Chinese Business the College provides opportunities for students and businesses in West Virginia to learn more about the ever-growing economy of China, thereby expanding their knowledge of business and cultural differences in a global context. Too, business and governmental leaders from China travel to Morgantown to deepen their understanding of market-based economies.
As testament to B&E's effectiveness, US News & World Report recently ranked the College's undergraduate program in the top 25% of all such programs accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
Demands on today's college graduates mandate that business schools constantly enhance their programs, facilities and capabilities. Mindful of those challenges, we shall strive to expand opportunities through private support to fulfill our mission and to foster a robust, success-oriented academic environment.
