Career Connect- Student FAQs

Q. How do I access CareerConnect?
A. In the CCD Students section, click CareerConnect login .

Q. How do I register?
A. When you are admitted into the College of Business and Economics and accepted in to your major, we automatically load you in to CareerConnect. By logging into CareerConnect the first time and filling out your profile, you understand and agree that your name, mix email address and any personal information you provide will be shared with employers and our partner NACELink – powered by Symplicity. If you wish to opt out of CareerConnect or have your information removed for privacy reasons, you must contact Cheryl Dixon, Recruiting Coordinator at cheryl.dixon@mail.wvu.edu. Please remember that your profile must be updated and resume uploaded in order to participate in on-campus recruiting.

Q. What is my Username and Password?
A. If you are logging in for the first time, your username is your WVU Mix email (name@mix.wvu.edu). Your temporary password will be emailed to your mix email.

Q. How many resumes can I upload?
A. You can upload up to 10 different documents in CareerConnect. Attachments can include resumes or cover letters.

Q. How do I build my Personal Profile?
A. Build your personal profile by clicking on the Profile link on the top navigation bar. Click the Personal Information and Academic Information tabs and update information. Update your system access by clicking on the Change Password tab and creating a new password. Update Privacy settings by clicking the Privacy tab. You MUST submit your changes before you navigate away from the Profile Section, OR THEY WILL BE LOST.

Q. How Do I Manage My Documents?
A. View existing and upload new documents – Resumes and Cover Letters – by clicking on the documents link on the top navigation bar. Click on Add New to upload a new document. System will convert documents to pdf format. This process could take 5-10 minutes.The Make Default button designates a main resume tat will be the first option when submitting a resume to employers, and with permission, will appear in the employer resume books. Be aware that the name on your resume will sometimes be visible to employers.

Q. Where can I find Upcoming Information Sessions and Workshops?
A. View upcoming information sessions and workshops by clicking on the Events link on the top navigation bar, and then by clicking on the Information Sessions or Workshops tab. View information session details and RSVP for the event by clicking on the desired information session link. View the title of the workshop in the Name column for detailed information about each event.

Q. Where Can I Find Important Dates and Personal Events?
A. View important dates for the upcoming weeks by clicking on the Calendar link on the top navigation bar. Review important dates by clicking on the highlighted dates in the inset calendar on the right. Click on a link in the event to view the details. Change the view of your calendar by clicking the appropriate tab. Create, review and/or update events that do not automatically appear on the calendar by clicking on the Personal Events tab.

Q. How do I Search For Jobs?
A. View job postings by clicking on Jobs on the top navigation bar, then selecting CSM Jobs. Sort the job list by major, position type, industry, or key words by utilizing the dropdown menus at the top. Click the Show List With Status to see the status of the jobs (applied, qualify, non—qualify). Review position details by clicking on a link in the Title column. When using the search, the system looks for EXACT matches. So, for example, if you want jobs for Finance majors, you must search not only for Finance majors, but also for “all majors.” The simplest solution is generally to search on jobs for which you qualify and leave all other fields blank. When performing searches, if you hold down the control key, you can select more than one option.

Q. How Can I Submit Resume and Apply for Jobs?
A. Review the Posted Date and Resume Submission deadline by utilizing the Important Date Features on the Important Date feature. Submit a resume, if qualified, by highlighting the proper resume name from the resume dropdown, inputting cover notes (if applicable) and clicking the Submit button from the Application Status section. You will only be able to apply for a position if you meet the criteria set by the employer for the position. If your GPA is lower than the employer’s set minimum, the system will not allow you to apply. If your major is not one of the majors that the employer has specified for the position, the system will not allow you to apply. You can only submit the documents that a company has said it will accept. If the company wishes to receive resumes only for candidates, you will not be able to submit a cover letter or other documents.

Q. How Can I Signup for an Interview?
A. To view interview requests click on MY INTERVIEWS on the top navigation bar and then click on the Interview Requests tab or click on Home on the top navigation bar and then click on You may sign up for 1 interview(s) alert. To signup for an Interview – if the Status column reads “Invited!” I, click the Schedule Interview button. Select an Available Date. Select an Available Interview Timeslot. Click Submit to schedule the interview. To View Scheduled Interviews click on MY Interviews on the top navigation bar and then click on the Scheduled Interviews tab. To Manage Scheduled Interviews click on an Interview Date to view interview details. Click on the Reschedule button to choose another date and/or time slot. The Reschedule button will not cancel the existing interview until a new timeslot is selected.

Q. Where are my interviews located?
A. All on-campus interviews are in the Center for Career Development - B&E 345, unless specified otherwise.

Q. Can I cancel an interview?
A. Only certain circumstances permit a student to cancel an interview. If an emergency should occur please follow these steps to properly cancel your interview (note: you may still be in violation of interviewing policy if your emergency is not approved):
 1. Contact the Recruiting Coordinator, Cheryl Dixon at 304-293-6507 or cheryl.dixon@mail.wvu.edu as soon as you are aware that you will need to cancel.
 2. Click Cancel Interview button to remove an interview. The Cancel Interview button will trigger an automatic CCD email alerting the employer and the CCD that a scheduled interview has been canceled and the interview slot will be available for student signups.
 3. Email the employer/s that you were scheduled to interview with to explain your situation.
 4. Be prepared to provide the necessary documentation to verify your emergency if necessary.

Q. What happens if I get an email for violating the CareerConnect policy?
A. The first time you violate a policy you will receive a warning via email. A second violation will result in the inactivation of your CareerConnect account for the remainder of the academic year. You are welcome to appeal any warning or account inactivation (contact Bruce Lane, bruce.lane@mail.wvu.edu or 304-293-6506 for more information). You must submit a written explanation of the circumstances and provide any documentation that you feel might help your appeal (correspondence with an employer, doctor’s note, etc.).

Q. How do I request to have my information removed from the CareerConnect email distribution list?
A. If you do not want the Center for Career Development to send you any e-mails, you can choose “no” to receive email notifications in the Privacy section of your profile.

Q. How do I request to have my Profile information removed from the CareerConnect system?
A. If you no longer wish to have your information in the system, please contact Cheryl Dixon at 304-293-6507 or cheryl.dixon@mail.wvu.edu.
