Trade Mission to China

Ellen Cappellanti of Charleston is the chair of JacksonKelly's Business and Commercial Law Section. She has been on numerous trade missions, usually in her capacity as a member of the board of directors of Sen. Jay Rockefeller's Discover The Real West Virginia Foundation. This is her second trip to China.

Mark Carter is vice president of Swanson Industries Inc., a Morgantown-based supplier of hydraulic, machining and plating services. Swanson reached a supplier agreement with a Shanghai company in 2004 and purchased that company in May. This is Carter's eighth trip to China.

Gov. Joe Manchin is leading the delegation of West Virginians on a trade mission to China. This is Manchin's third trade mission since becoming governor. He traveled to Japan in 2005 and to Italy and Germany in 2006. Earlier this year he has visited Puerto Rico and Canada.

P.L. "Judge" McWhorter is a consultant with Phillips Machine Service of Beckley. Phillips is a manufacturer of underground coal mining equipment. The company has been selling equipment in China since 2001 and has a joint venture there. This is McWhorter's 30th trip to China.

Sharon DeWitt is a fifth grade teacher at Cheat Lake Middle School, near Morgantown. She started at the school in 1974 as a third grade teacher. She switched to the fifth grade in the early 1980s. Cheat Lake Middle has about 600 students. DeWitt and her husband, Tom, are traveling with Gov. Joe Manchin in China. This is her first trip to China.
