Study Abroad - Summer 2006 (China)
Receive B&E credit for working with a team of faculty, students, and company representatives to evaluate the market potential and develop a market entry strategy for an actual West Virginia company.
The first week of class will be held in Morgantown, WV and concentrates on Chinese culture, elementary language skills and meetings with company officials. Students, faculty, and company representatives will travel together to China in late May to attend classes, explore the Chinese market, meet Chinese company representatives, and develop a strategic plan for the company. Students will work with WVU professors in Morgantown during the final week of classes to prepare for the final presentation to company officials.
Receive 6 Credit Hours: Three credit hours in International Business B (will substitute for International Finance, International Marketing, International Management, International Accounting and Special Topics in Economics) and receive 3 credit hours in Independent Study in Finance 493, Economics 493, Marketing 493, or Management 493.
The program also includes study tours to cultural and historical sites such as Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace. Company visits include Owens Corning, Motorola, Shanghai General Motors, Baoshan Steel Corporation, and the Tianjin Economic Development Area..
Living arrangements: While in China, students will sleep two to a room in local three-star hotels. Rooms and facilities are clean and comfortable. The Chinese hosts will provide most breakfast, lunch, and dinners.
Cost $3,500: Includes tuition, roundtrip airfare from Pittsburgh, PA to China, room and board (in China), sight seeing, corporate visits, introductions, and receptions.
