Policy
for Graduate Assistant Dadisman Supplement
Admissions
and Financial Awards Committee, Department of Economics.
The
intent is to provide Graduate Assistants making appropriate progress towards
the Ph.D. degree with an additional stipend of $500 per semester during
the 3rd and 4th years of study.This
stipend supplement will be financed out of the Dadisman fund.
Eligibility
Requirements:
1. Student
must have been awarded a Graduate Assistantship and must be working towards
a Ph.D. in economics.
2. Student
must be in good academic standing as defined by the “criteria for renewal
of an assistantship.”
3. Student
must have passed all comprehensive exams.
4. To
receive the stipend supplement for Fall of the 4th year, the student must
have either successfully defended the dissertation proposal or the
dissertation advisor must certify at the beginning of the 4th year that
the student is making significant progress toward completing the dissertation
no later than the Summer of the 4th year.
5. To
receive the stipend supplement for Spring of the 4th year, the student
must have successfully defended the dissertation proposal and the
dissertation advisor must certify that the student is making significant
progress toward completing the dissertation no later than the Summer of
the 4th year.
If
any of these conditions are not met at the beginning of the relevant semester,
the student will start receiving the stipend supplement for the remainder
of her/his 3rd and 4th years, starting the semester following the semester
that these conditions are met.
Exceptions
may be made only under unusual circumstances.
Effective
deadlines for the proposal defense are August 15 (the beginning of the
4th year), to receive the supplement for Fall of the 4th year) or December
15 of the 4th year, to receive the supplement for the second semester of
the 4th year.Deadlines for passing
comprehensive exams are the effective comprehensive exam dates (with grading
delays not counted against the student).
