These are my pictures of Poland
taken during the summer of 2005 while working with colleagues at the
Collegium Civitas in Warsaw to set up a course on the transitional
economies of Europe. The course will include a ten-day trip to Poland
during the 2007 spring break in March.
The
photos are of Warsaw and Krakow. Warsaw is the capital of Poland, which
was occupied by the Nazis in World War II and almost completely
destroyed and later rebuilt just as it had been, an amazing
accomplishment. Krakow is a gorgeous medieval town in the south of
Poland, which, unlike Warsaw, escaped destruction during WWII.
While Warsaw is the political capital of Poland, Krakow, with its
Jagellonian University, the second oldest in central
Europe, is the
cultural capital. My Krakow photos are in two galleries, one
titled "Krakow" and the other "Wawel Castle." Wawel Castle
overlooks Krakow and deserves its own gallery. Finally, there's a
photo gallery of the Nazi concentration camps at Auschwitz, which will
be included in the trip in March.
Below, you will see photos representative of each of
these galleries. Clicking on any one of
them opens a folder containing many more photos.
