Thabo Mbeki, President of South Africa, came visiting during our March, 2001 trip. We knew that Castro would be meeting him at the University of Havana campus. Our guides kept track of when this event would occur (the time kept changing) and got us onto the campus with a whole lot of sweet-talking of the guards. We were amazingly close as they walked by, and Castro even stopped to say a few words. My pics aren't the best, since conditions in the middle of the small crowd were not ideal, but they're worth showing.
