Fred Tattersall

November 2010

DEAR ALUMNI & FRIENDS,

Dean Sartarelli

In our pursuit of our VISION of BETTER, BIGGER, RANKED, our five enunciated priorities - ATTRACT, EDUCATE, CONNECT, ORGANIZE, FUND - are all equally very important. However, there is no question that, without diminishing the others, FUNDING is the big enabler. Robust FUNDING is a "sine qua non" condition for the realization of the other four priorities.

This week saw the "FUNDING" priority in the limelight and for very good reasons. Mr. Fred T. Tattersall, a successful B&E graduate in Finance, gifted the College a $3 million endowed chair in Finance. The largest ever gift to the College not only demonstrates Mr. Tattersall's continued support for B&E but it also represents an opportunity for him to give back and to do so in a way that is most impactful to the largest number of students for the longest time.

Mr. Tattersall, our most sincere THANK YOU.

Below you will find the most exciting news taking place at our beloved College. Please take the time to read them and reconnect with your Alma Mater.

  • Five champions of business were inducted into the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame on Thursday, November 18. Gregory Babe, Thomas DeWitt, Addison Fischer, Don Hoylman and Robert Reynolds have each made significant and lasting contributions to business in our state.
  • The 21st Century Scholars program, which admits top high school graduates to the College in their freshman year, has doubled in size from 25 in 2008 to 54 this semester. The program provides students with a more intimate learning environment and personalized advising from the start.
  • We welcome three new faculty members to the B&E family: Timothy Munyon and Jun Xia joined the management department as assistant professors, and Denise White is a new teaching instructor of accounting.
  • The College of Business and Economics finds more and more graduates heading to law school. Meet three grads who now have successful legal careers; their business backgrounds helped them through law school and moved one J.D. through the ranks to a managerial position.
