Area of Expertise:
Most of Dr. Cushing's recent work has focused on issues related to population migration and poverty. This includes analysis of Appalachian poverty, consideration of appropriate methods to measure the true extent of poverty, the effects of poverty, and of public policy - especially social welfare programs - on migration decisions of low-income households, and the role of race relations in population migration.
