Application for Graduation and Diploma
Students graduating are required to complete an Application for Graduation and Diploma. Each student is required to see Cindy Perkins in the Office of Undergraduate Programs and Advising, Room 358D, to complete this form. The deadline to apply for May 2013 Commencement is March 12, 2013. All applications received after this date will be put on the August 2013 tentative graduation list. Only students that have received their degree in August 2012, December 2012, or who are completing their degree program by May 2013 will have their names appear in the Commencement program.
Students who have applied for graduation are asked to check the tentative graduation list. Please check the list for correct spelling of your name and that your name appears as you want it to appear on your diploma. If there are any changes needed, please contact Cynthia.Perkins@mail.wvu.edu.
Fees and Fines
The application for graduation and diploma fee is no longer required by the University. All outstanding accounts to the University must be paid including library fines and parking tickets in order to receive your diploma. Holds on students accounts can be checked on MIX.
Ceremony Attendence
Students planning to attend the ceremony are required to fill out a registration form. Students completing their degree requirements by the end of summer 2013 are also invited to participate in the May ceremony. Please complete the online registration form.
Academic Procession
Students participating in the ceremony must report to the second floor of the Coliseum above the Red Gate no later than 5:00 p.m. to check-in. At this time, the students will receive a card with their name on it to give to the person announcing their name as they cross the stage and they will be told where they need to go to line-up for the procession on to the floor.
Academic Regalia
Degree candidates are required to wear full regalia. Caps, gowns, tassels, and hoods are available at the WVU Book Store. The tassel color for the College is drab.
Honor Cords
Cords to designate Latin honors will be given to students during the check-in process at the Coliseum before the ceremony.
Ceremony Program
Students will be recognized individually by degree program with their names read as they walk across the stage. Professional photographs will be taken of each student as they walk across the stage. Diplomas will not be distributed at the ceremony. Students will receive a commemorative WVU diploma cover as they cross the stage. A letter will also be included telling the students when to expect their diploma in the mail. Students will be directed to return to their seats after they walk across the stage and are requested to stay in their seats until the recessional.
Reception
A reception for the graduates and their guests will be held at the Shell Building adjacent to the Coliseum immediately following the ceremony. RSVP online by May 10.
