apply for admission to West Virginia University in addition to completing application information for the
College of Business and Economics.

Hospitality and Tourism Management Area of Emphasis

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Area of Emphasis is designed to meet the needs of West Virginia's second-largest industry. This program is available to any students enrolled at the College of Business and Economics and includes four core classes:
Hospitality and Tourism Leadership
The primary objective of this course is to provide an overview of the hospitality and tourism industry and develop effective leaders for the industry. The focus is on management functions and leadership traits in the lodging, food service and tourism sectors.
Hotel Operations Management
The primary objective of this course focuses on operational and maintenance procedures for hotel management. Case studies introduce students to the day to day operations of each department in a hotel and allow students to understand what seasoned managers do.
Restaurant Operations Management
The primary objective of this course is to provide a basic overview of food and beverage operations. Case studies will introduce students to the day to day operations of each department in a restaurant. The Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe and The Regatta Bar and Grille will be used as learning labs.
Tourism Management
The primary objective of this course is to provide a basic understanding of the characteristics of tourism concepts. The roles of national, regional and state/local tourism organizations are examined. The course will examine organization, operations and social and cultural aspects of tourism.
