Note: WVU's Business Core courses (BCOR) numbered 320, 340, 350, and 370 satisfy the law, finance, marketing and management requirements.
The above courses are required by WVU because they are specifically required by the WV Board of Accountancy to sit for the CPA examination in WV. These courses are also required because CPA's need a broad business background in the practice of public accounting.
International Students
All graduates from non-USA universities should submit their undergraduate degree transcripts to the credentialing service used by the WV Board of Accountancy or another state's credentialing service. Credentialing companies charge a fee for their services. A copy of the credentialing service report should be sent to:
MPA Coordinator
Division of Accounting
300 College of Business and Economics
West Virginia University
Morgantown, WV 26506-6025
The Division of Accounting must receive the report from the credentialing company before an admission decision can be made.
The credentialing service used by the WV State Board of Accountancy is:
Foreign Academic Credential Service, Inc.
PO Box 400
Glen Carbon, IL 62034-0400
Phone 618 288-1661
Students who may be deficient by two or more business courses are strongly encouraged to submit their undergraduate transcripts to a credentialing service prior to enrolling in any WVU courses in order to provide more time for removal of deficiencies prior to applying to sit for the CPA examination.
International students who are required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) examination should note that the Division of Accounting requires a minimum of 250 (computer scoring) or 600 (paper scoring). This exceeds the WVU minimum requirement of 213 (computer scoring) or 550 (paper scoring). This higher requirement exists due to the greater communication skills required by the accounting profession.
