The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)

Beginning October 1, 1997 the Graduate Management Admission Council launched the computer-adaptive Graduate Management Admission Test. The computer-adaptive test (CAT) replaced the paper-based GMAT in North America and selected international locations.

The GMAT measures language, quantitative, and writing skills and is designed to help predict a student's potential academic performance. The GMAT does not test knowledge in specific subjects, but instead measures general verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills. Undergraduate study in business, or the lack of it, will not affect a test-taker's GMAT score.
