Italy Program - Overview

Give your degree a truly international dimension

School CampusWVU is a member of a consortium of U. S. universities. See a list of schools below that offer college business courses in Italy. The classes are taught in English and are typically taught by faculty from American universities with the students being from the various consortium schools. The classes have an international focus. The undergraduate semester program offers some core non-business courses as well.

Undergraduate Students have the opportunity to study in Italy for either a semester or summer session.

Semester Abroad (for Undergraduates): Opportunities for Fall semester and/or Spring semester. Classes are at the Consortium's campus in Paderno del Grappa, Italy. Students are expected to register for a full semester of classes i.e. 12-18 hours. Classes are offered in all business and economics disciplines with courses in journalism, communications, culture, and language also offered.

Summer 1 Abroad (for Undergraduates) at the Consortium's campus in Paderno del Grappa, Italy. Students take six credit hours (two three-hour classes). Summer session is four weeks long rather than six weeks. Program dates for the summer are roughly mid-May to mid-June. There is no Summer 2 program. Most offerings are business and economics classes. One or more classes in Communications Studies and/or Journalism are often offered along with one or two other nonbusiness classes. International Studies majors, Communications majors, journalism students and others from nonbusiness majors may take these classes if they have the academic background and foundation.

Graduate Students(MBA, MSIR, EMBA or MPA) have the opportunity to study in Italy for either a Summer 1 session, a Summer 2 session or both. Each session students take six credit hours (two three-hour courses). The graduate program is held in Asolo, Italy. Asolo is about three miles from Paderno where the undergraduates study. Graduates should check with their program advisors as to the appropriate session to attend and how the course work in Italy will fit into their program.

WVU graduate students from other disciplines are welcome to attend the summer program in Asolo as long as it can be expected that they can handle the course work.

For all programs, housing and some meals are provided. Students are expected to travel during their stay at the Consortium. The Semester Abroad program has two one-week breaks and two long weekends during the semester to facilitate travel in Europe. The Summer programs typically have classes four days a week leaving three-day weekends for travel.

Created in 1985 the Consortium of Universities for International Business Studies is a non-profit organization committed to international business education. Semester and summer programs are organized and coordinated by the University of Kansas on behalf of the Consortium. At present the University of Kansas is the Consortium's credit granting institution.

Also for undergraduates, there typically will be an evening informational meeting sometime during the Fall semester, probably in late October, for students interested in the Spring, Summer and Fall Italy programs. Another informational meeting is usually held in mid-January. An e-mail announcing these meetings is sent to all Business and pre-Business students, announcements of the meeting may be in the Daily Athenaeum and signs announcing the meetings will be posted in the B & E Bldg. Watch for the meeting announcements.
