During the freshman and sophomore years, students interested in a business or economics degree complete basic business courses and a variety of courses from the general WVU General Education Curriculum. (See the West Virginia University Undergraduate Catalog for details on the many options open to students.)
Incoming freshmen of exceptional merit can be directly admitted into the College without waiting to complete the 58 credit hours. If you think you might be eligible for this, contact the College Undergraduate Advising Center for more details.
Any student with a minimum GPA of 2.50 at the time of application and who will have completed 58 or more semester hours and the prerequisite courses listed below by the end of the current semester is eligible to apply for admission to the College. Students seeking admission for the fall semester may complete prerequisite courses during the summer.
Students with a cumulative GPA at or above 2.50 will be considered for admission in order of descending grade point average, as resources permit. Demand for admission into undergraduate programs is cyclical and highly competitive. In recent semesters, a grade point average greater than 2.50 has been required for admission to the College.
The College will admit eligible transfer students who have completed all aforementioned prerequisite course work, have attained junior rank, and have documented grade point averages at or above the most recent cutoff GPA for on-campus applicants. For this purpose, the grade point average will be calculated using both WVU course work and transferrable baccalaureate level course work attempted at all regionally accredited institutions.
The College encourages students seeking the degree of Bachelor of Science in Economics to complete Math 153 and Math 154, or Math 155. Students intending to pursue graduate work in economics should complete Math 156.
Students with a cumulative GPA at or above 2.50 will be considered by descending grade point average for admission into the College as space permits. Demand for entry into business programs is cyclical and recently competition has been especially keen. In recent semesters a grade point average substantially above 2.50 has been required for admission to the College.
Students must submit a formal application for admission. Applications may be filed electronically. We accept applications for admission to our undergraduate programs during fall semester from the first day of classes to September 15th and during spring semester from the first day of classes to February 15th. The application link is live only during these application periods.
Transfer students must have completed all course and grade requirements and must have grade point averages at or above 2.50 to be eligible to apply for admission to the College. The College will admit eligible transfer students with grade point averages at or above the most recent cutoff GPA for on-campus applicants. For this purpose, the grade point average will be calculated using both WVU course work and all college-level work attempted at other institutions. First semester WVU transfer students are exempt from the application deadlines.
